Fairness

Fairness(HT Jim York)

Or, if we deem society unfair because some beings get to climb trees while others wallow below, we---in our demand for equality---are left with no choice but to force the climber down to earth.

  1. the process through which EQUITY is achieved. Though the terms are often used interchangeably, equity is not the same as equality. Equality is a concept that emphasizes the sameness of inputs; equity, on the other hand, is a concept that focuses on the representative distribution among outcomes. Therefore, the appropriation of fairness means, by definition, that not every individual receives the same in order that equity be achieved.

  2. The post-2015 development framework should address social inequalities and the drivers of poverty, placing inequalities and human rights at the heart of the agenda with a focus on the most marginalised groups in support of programmes which respect and protect rights. A rights-based approach is necessary to address key points related to equity, gender equality, marginalised groups etc. Respecting and protecting human rights, gender equality, health and education should be explicitly identified as key to programme planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
