Just started reading Hank Pruden's The Three Skills of Top Trading: Behavioral Systems Building, Pattern Recognition, and Mental State Management. 

Right out of the gate he emphasizes what we preach ad nauseam here on the blog:

One of the very first rules of technical analysis is, “Trade in sympathy with the primary trend of the market.” The primary trend is the tidal force, the major swing factor, the setter of important channel boundaries, the overarching movement within which all other time trends revolve. To ignore or to flaunt the message given by the primary trend is a folly.
